(The following is more of a forum post we had been doing in google docs as a general thoughts and updates for the team members)

The Loop

Start wk1 19/2/12

First week was 80% concepting and 20% grey boxing with aims to have greyboxing turned to 80% by the end of the first week. - Oisin.

Refer to General Map Layout Notes / Progress.  In general most of the grey boxing is done, just general tweaking and dressing to be done. - Damien 27/02/2012

Drew up some rough concepts for level (thumbnails and rough lineart). - G’roy

Start wk2  27/2/12

Hoping to have to modeling mostly smashed out and basic texturing done, Status pending. - Oisin.

Dressing and tweaking of rooms is continuing, aside from basic layouts and room dressing basically done.  Mess hall/Rec room area and cockpit are the only ones that need major edits.  Otherwise other rooms are ready to move onto texture/dressing stages by the end of monday.
Took basic version of map grey box into tool bench.  From a rough player view angle rooms seem to be ok size wise.  Room size tweaks mentioned above is more for “making sense to the player for spaceship design,” than actual drastic changes. -  Damien 27/02/2012

Moved onto making map in toolbench in segments.  Started with outside bulkhead walls and main inner walls.  These sections are currently made up of “straight segments” of 2x1x5 m segments and the doorways are 4x1x5 m with a 1x2x5 chunk taken out of the middle.  Slow progress but once set up will make everythign else be setup really easy and quickly. Finished modelling and remodelling of assigned assets. Ready to be UV unwrapped. - G’roy

General layout of map is complete, possible minor adjustments will be required after texturing to tweak positioning. 05/03/2012

Well its been longer then i thought since my last update but needless to say we have been pretty busy, The Assignment is coming along, slower then anticipated by only marginaly, I had some concerns at the pace we were moving at but most of them we’re qwelled once i could see assets in the scene and suddenly it didnt look so bad, We had been busy modeling out assets of basic detail to quickly throw in, before quickly uv unwrapping and throw ni multi shaders on before wacking it into the scene, i had hopped to have more texturing done but admitedly we had to reoganise a few things or rename a few things which did slow down the process, But i hope to have diffuse done this week leaving room for spec and normal next week while someone gets the lights going.  i am hoping to get most of it done at home and see it all come together the following week. - Oisin 8/3/12

container textures done - ready for toolbench testing. - G’roy 9/03/12

13/03/12

hologram panels are textured and ready for testing in toolbench. the consoles are textured with only a base diffuse - needs a spec and nrml map. - G’roy

shuttle texture in progress. should be ready by tomorrow morning at the lastest. - G’roy

After a few minor issues, the spec and normals for the floors are finally done.  That cool metallic sheen can be seen as the light hits them.  The hanger floors seem not as shiny BUT considering its meant to be a storage / hanger area it makes sense due to how dirty it would be compared to the rest of the ship.  Damien 14/3/2012

Alright well we made made a strong push with the texturing aiming to get diffuse done, a large percentile now has diffuse, i am hoping now with that done i can come though and smash though the spec and normal maps, We are still testing lighting, there seems to be some kind of lighting flicker happening which no one seems to know exactly why its doing that, which makes lighting hard if we dont know which lighting we are going to end up with in game. Hoping to have texturing utterly done this week before starting again next week, giving us time to tweak and do door animations at least.

Also as inspired from simons team i finally got around to making a proper blog site and will copy this up on there, i would have done it about a week ago but was too busy working on the assignment. Which dispite my gerivences i will say i am getting better but i still need to pick up my speed, i am taking too long on it which annoys the shit out of me. Still i must say i am feeling much more confident with photoshop now then i have before.

We had to drop the bedroom section of the ship to save time and effort, if we want we can pick it up later but we had to cut on the project to make any headway on the assignment. -oisin

The Blogagendon

Alright so i have made the step and actually got this under way, i imagine its too little too late but after seeing some examples of it, i can see myself pushing for it come next assignment. Anyway thought i would give this a try out never the less so when i try it again it wont be utter fail, that the gods above would look on at humanity with spurn and cast fiery wrath down upon us in forms of bacon. - Oisin
